Globalisation is the process of international integration arising from the interchange and exchange of products, ideas, politics and popular culture.
Globalisation is aslo seen as a way that international boundaries that once existed, are broken down by the advert of new technologies.
Social media has contributed to this, with the way in which users of a network can connect in an instant.

This has revolutionised how we can see the world around us, and how news is reported. Its no longer solely in the hands of news/media conglomerates.

The term was coined by Marshall McLuhan in 1964. Basing his theories on the rise of TV, he suggested new technologies could lead to a library network where people could access all manner of information.
This was realised with the advent of the internet and Web 2.0 geographical boundaries have been eroded as a result.
Web Utopians, such as David Gauntlett, celebrate the potential for collaboration and connectivity with new technologies. They believe online and social media technologies will benefit the world, allowing societies to come together.
Electronic agora - a term coined by Rheingold in 1991- is used to describe online meeting saves, such as forums and chat rooms, where people can discuss topics, ideas and ways to achieve collaboration of projects.
Open source - material that can be used or altered by companies as they wish.
eSports - virtual sports that are run on an electronic system, including MMORPGs. eSports communities have developed to such an extent that users come together in stadium venues to compete.
Soundcloud has benefited music producers by:
- Allowing people to upload a set amount of free music (2 hours worth).
- Can share your music straight from Soundcloud to social media.
- Big artists are constantly scouring Soundcloud for new up-and-coming talent.
